Illumination’s Super Mario Movie Will Have an All-Star Cast
Today’s Nintendo Direct was chock full of terrific game news, including some highly anticipated announcements regarding Bayonetta 3 and a new Kirby game. But it also brought us some new details about Illumination’s upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie, namely when it’s coming and who’s going to be voicing it.
The movie will arrive during the holiday 2022 window, provided there aren’t any delays from the fallout of COVID-19, like we saw with the Minions prequel last summer. This likely won’t be the case, which means Mario should be right on par with arriving in theaters.
Meanwhile, let’s talk casting. Playing the iconic Mario will be none other than Star-Lord himself, Chris Pratt! On top of that, Charlie Day of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia fame will join him once more as his brother, Luigi.
Anya Taylor-Joy will join the cast as Princess Peach, while Keegan Michael Key will provide the voice of Toad. And who’s left to play Bowser? Why, who else but the one and only Jack Black!
Also joining the cast are Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong; Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong; Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. It’s also confirmed that Charles Martinet, the original voice of Mario, will be part of the cast as well, though his role hasn’t been disclosed yet.
The Super Mario Bros. movie arrives on December 21, 2022. And hopefully, it’ll leave a bigger impact than, ahem, the last one…
