Official Release Date for Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones in 2022!
Release Date Announced: Skull and Bones!
If you love the high seas, then you’ll be excited for Ubisoft’s new tactical action game: Skull and Bones. Originally announced at E3 2017, Skull and Bones now has an official release date of Nov. 8, 2022. The game takes place in the Indian Ocean, where players must become a legendary pirate. Players will be given a variety of abilities and responsibilities including crafting assets, managing their crews, and battling pirates and smugglers. The new game will have a cross-play feature that allows players to play with others on any system (cross-platform). Ubisoft has said that Skull and Bones will be compatible with Xbox, PlayStation, Stadia, Luna, and PC (Epic Games Store exclusive).
Navigating the High Seas
While it initially looked like a solid game to me, the presentation didn’t turn out as well as I anticipated from the 2018 debut. Despite all the delays and issues with the game, Ubisoft clearly believed in the concept enough to invest millions of dollars in the project’s development. The delay and many changes in the development process have only served to demoralize the teams. Despite this, the company has remained committed to developing Skull and Bones. Their team was excited to give fans more information on the game’s progress in today’s livestream on both, Twitch and YouTube.
So, what’s the game like? Ultimately, the gameplay in Skull and Bones is very focused on naval combat, which is very reminiscent of Assassins Creed: Black Flag and it’s loop powered by naval battles. Players take the role of their shipwrecked pirate tackling wildlife, Navy, and other pirates. Skull and Bones will incorporate elements of survival games like fishing and exploration. Players will start off with a bare-bones ship in which they must gather resources and reputation to unlock bigger and better vessels. Money earned through jobs, raids, and settlements will determine the advancement of players as well as who will be the most feared pirate on the sea. The game features competitive and cooperative multiplayer game modes (up to three players), as well as a variety of ship types.
There’s still a lot of room for more details on Skull and Bones. Sail over to Ubisoft’s store and you can preorder the game now as well as sign up for testing of future beta builds. We will see you all in November, on the high seas!
